Geocache Description:

Cache is located on the very summit. ~1/2 mi. in total distance w/~500 ft. elev. gain. Takes you to a fabulous view of Longs/Meeker as well as downtown Estes. Climbing involved at the top!! Old Man Mountain is the 28th most spiritual place in America. Park OUTSIDE the gates to Univ. of Northern CO research facility, which is open to all public pedestrian traffic.

Cache is a small canister restocked w/swag 9/2014. After you enter the gate, proceed past restroom facility on the right and after you pass the tiny building after the restroom, you will see a trail that strikes off to the right. Proceed upward, staying close to the rock formation ahead of you on the right. Halfway to the summit, walk up large smooth rockdome and look for some cairns to guide you to the summit. As you face mtn., work your way up in front and to the left. There is one crevice (~10-12 ft.) that you must climb that will be on your right, then again proceed mostly up the left side to finally reach summit. That being said, our 6 and 8 year old helped us place this cache and the climb took about an hour, another 1/2 hr. coming down. It required both parents to safely get the 6yo up, but if your kids like rock-climbing, it can be done. Not for the fearful child, though.
