Geocache Description:

This cache is a short distance off the access road into Herman Creek Campground. A building once stood here, but all that remains is the foundation and the stone steps, and Mother Nature is slowly reclaiming it. According to the Heritage Program Manager for the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, the Forest Service used to have a large compound at Herman Creek. There were several buildings on the site that have since been removed. The foundation at the cache site was probably for the rangers' dwelling. GPS reception is spotty here, so please feel free to use the hint and photo.

During the winter this road is gated, so you will have to park at the gate and walk up (it takes about five minutes). During the summer when the gate is open please remember that the road is narrow and don't block it when you park. There is a nice pull-out on the north side (downhill side) of the road almost directly across from the old foundation.

**The Columbia River Gorge is one of the rainiest places in Oregon, so PLEASE SNAP THE LID SHUT ALL THE WAY so the contents don't get wet. Thank you.**
