Nicholas Cage gave movie goers a big shot of adrenaline with a fast, violent car chance in Gone in 60 Seconds. But my favorite movie chases are the all out Tom and Jerry chases. For outright comic violence, these two toons are the standard for toon chases.
William Hanna and Joseph Barbera created Tom and Jerry for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. They wrote and directed 114 Tom and Jerry cartoons between 1940 and 1957. . The series received the Academy Award for Best Short Subject: Cartoons seven times, tying with Walt Disney’s Silly Symphonies.
After MGM shut down its animation division, Tom and Jerry Cartoons were produced in other studios under the direction of Gene Deitch and Chuck Jones. The TJ duo moved to television in the 1970’s. Now days, I catch my favorite toons on the CW. Adrenaline? Who needs adrenaline when you can have out and out laughter with Tom and Jerry.
