História e Património de Vale de Cambra
O vale fértil que deu origem ao nome 'Vale de Cambra', propiciou, desde muito cedo, a fixação dos povos. Vestígios arqueológicos e estudos de toponímia levam a concluir que o território foi ocupado por civilizações pré e proto-históricas. Localizado cerca de 40 quilómetros a Sul da cidade do Porto, o Município de Vale de Cambra é delimitado a Norte por Arouca, a Oeste por Oliveira de Azeméis, a Sul por Sever do Vouga, a Sueste por Oliveira de Frades e a Este por S. Pedro do Sul (Viseu). Antes de adoptar a sua designação actual, o Concelho foi baptizado com vários nomes: chamou-se Caymbra, Santa Maria de Caymbra, Câmara do Bispo de Coimbra, Cambra e, mais tarde, Macieira de Cambra. Aliás, foi precisamente a actual Vila de Macieira de Cambra que primeiro se afirmou enquanto concelho, até ver essa condição extinta pelo decreto n.º 12976 de 31 de Dezembro de 1926. O mesmo documento ordenava que a sede do município fosse transferida para a povoação de Gandra, na freguesia de Vila Chã, e foi nessa altura que o concelho adoptou a denominação pela qual é hoje conhecido. A 20 de Maio de 1993, Vale de Cambra foi elevada a Cidade. Hoje, é um Município moderno que alia as suas fortes tradições, a sua paisagem rural e a sua população ao arrojo de industriais que souberam desenvolver a economia, alargar horizontes e desafiar o futuro, numa permanente dinâmica empresarial, social, cultural, desportiva e cívica. Vale de Cambra é uma cidade portuguesa da Grande Área Metropolitana do Porto, situada na região Norte e subregião de Entre Douro e Vouga, com cerca de 4 100 habitantes. É sede de um município com 146,21 km² de área e 24 798 habitantes (2001), subdividido em 9 freguesias. O município é limitado a norte pelos municípios de Arouca, a leste por São Pedro do Sul, a sueste por Oliveira de Frades, a sul por Sever do Vouga e a oeste por Oliveira de Azeméis.
