Walter Marshall and Dr Anulf Klett
In 1948 the Mayor of St.Helens, Alderman Walter Marshall, was the first British civic leader to visit the city of Stuttgart which lay in ruins in the post-war years. During his visit, he and Stuttgart’s Mayor Dr Arnulf Klett agreed on establishing closer links laying the foundation for the first of ten twinning schemes and for a lasting friendship.

The cache is not at the published coordinates, it is a good 10-15 minute walk away.
The published coordinates are the proposed site of a living monument set to commemorate St.Helens and Stuttgarts 60 year old twinning links.
The project is a gift from Stuttgart as part of the joint Diamond anniversary links. All the ‘pieces’ will come from Stuttgart and Pilkington are helping with some of the glass panels.
