This is the second of, what we hope will be, a series of caches in Sible Hedingham. You can get into the meadow by any of 5 entrances. One of these is through the church yard but parking here is quite limited. The site is a recreational meadow so fairly easy access for everyone including pushchairs.
The cache is a small plastic box containing some small items to swap and a log book and pen.
Known locally as the Cow Field the correct name is Grays Hall Meadow.
Grays Hall itself was built circa 1714 by the Rev. Moses Cook who also built the Old Rectory. Until the early 1900's the meadow was part of the estate owned by successive owners of the Hall. Sometime during the 1900's Grays
Hall Meadow and the whole of the former field where the Graysmead Estate now stands was purchased by Rippers Limited, joinery manufacturers (now Premdor). Rippers Limited sold Graysmead for development and later, in
1985, Bowater Ripper Limited sold Grays Hall Meadow to Braintree District Council. In 1990 ownership of Grays Hall Meadow was transferred from Braintree District Council to Sible Hedingham Parish Council. Grays Hall Meadow, which is still owned by Sible Hedingham Parish Council, is
designated as a public open space for quiet enjoyment.
