The ferry to Rathlin Island leaves Ballycastle,Co Antrim four times daily from 1 June - end of September. The 'fast' 20 minute ferry for passengers only or the slow vehicle ferry which takes 45 minutes. All vehicles need permits and carry restrictions for visitors to limit the amount of traffic on the Island. It is essential to book the ferry in advance. Tel: 028 2076 9299 You can get a return daily ticket or you can stay in the guest house, camping barn, Hostel or pitch a tent.
The cache takes you on a three mile round trip of rough terrain The grass can be very muddy in wet weather so wear sensible shoes. Allow 2 - 3 hours to walk the trail from the harbour and back. On the way you will see the Seals in Mill Bay The entrance to Roonivoolin trail is marked from the road it takes you out to the cliffs and back to the road passing Ushet Lough. . Access to the walk has been granted by kind permission of local landowners so please have respect for the grazing animals.
The cache is in a 6" x 8" tab lock plastic box. When placed it contained various swap items including some souvenirs of Rathlin Island.
