In 1844 Captain John Bull together with 60 red coat marines from the 99th regiment arrived in Blackheath to take control of the military stockade for convicts working on the maintenance of the Old Bathurst Road now the Great Western Highway. Captain Bull being a very humane man was horrified to see the conditions with which the convicts were working in. Captain bull soon changed the situation by removing the leg irons, supplying new clothing and giving them better meals and housing.
From the cache its just a short walk to the stockade graves, a real part of our early history of the Blue Mountains in Blackheath.
The cache is a small plastic container approx 17x12x8cm complete with log book and a host of small swap items.
