This cache is not on the posted coordinates and a part of a series of crypto caches.

This cache is not on the posted coordinates. In this series of caches placed in the summer of 2009, you will encounter a variety of cryptographic methods, which have been in extended use throughout history. You have to solve (but not necessary find) the five caches Krypto Fioniae 1-5, in order to find the cache Krypto Fionae FINAL, and apart from this there is an extra cache for those, who wants an extra challenge.

In this cache we will work with a stronger sibling of the Caesar encryption we looked at in Krypto Fioniae 2. This time we look at the Vigenere decryption created by Giovan Battista Bellaso in 1553, but mainly attributed to Blaise de Vigenere. The cipher requires a keyword, which is used to encrypt the letters of the clear message by different Caesar ciphres (that is with different lengths of shift). If the Keyword for instance is KRYPTO then the first letter of the message will be encryptet by a Caesar ciphre, which sends A to K, the second by a Caesar ciphre, which sends A to R and so on. The seventh letter will again use the K, so the keyword is used multiple times to encrypt, all of the message. Decryption happens by knowing the keyword, and decrypting the correct Caesar cipher for each letter.
