Many years ago when I first visited this location, this wood reminded me of The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien. The description of Mirkwood.
Some trees have since been felled and hence it’s not as dark, eerie or foreboding as it used to be.
A great spot to chill and daydream.
Sor Brook picnic area is ideal for dog walkers. My Dad and his dog Bess used to frequent here, not anymore, but I’d like to think they still do.
The area used to have a small climbing frame for children. The sand pit is still visible today, although grass covered.
Also, a path climbs (North) up through the wood to take you to the Llandegfedd Reservoir Dam wall. Estimated distance is 1km.
Please cache during the day, as I believe the gate is being locked at 17-00hrs.
