  • Joseph Masters: the founder of Masterton.
  • Retimana Te Korou: the local Maori chief who negotiated the sale of land for Masterton with Joseph Masters. His main village was Kaikokirikiri above the Waipoua River, which is now the site of the Mahunga Golf Course.
  • Richard Iorns: son-inlaw of Joseph Masters, and the first person to be interred in this cemetery. Richard had dug a grave in preparation for the recovery of a person thought to have drowned.
