Geocache Description:

This cache is to pay tribute to a famous Brantfordonian,
Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922).

Bell was born in Edinburgh, Scotland to Alexander Melville and Eliza Grace Bell, on March 3, 1847. His family moved to Canada in 1870, because his parents had lost two children to tuberculosis, and they insisted that the best way to save their last child was to leave England.

Bell and his family made their home in the Tutela Heights area of Brantford.

Alexander Graham Bell once said . . .

"Leave the beaten track occasionally and dive into the
woods. Every time you do you will be certain to find
something that you have never seen before."

Wow! After reading this quote, one would think that A.G. Bell was talking about his latest geocaching adventure! He actually went on to say . . .

"Follow it up, explore all around it, and before you
know it, you will have something worth thinking about
to occupy your mind. All really big discoveries are the
results of thought."

Bell was driven by a genuine and rare intellectual curiosity that kept him regularly searching, striving, and wanting always to learn and to create.

We all know that Bell is most famous for inventing the telephone. With the words, "Mr. Watson, come here. I need you.", A.G. Bell literally turned the world on it's ear! Many believe the telephone patent is one of the most valuable patents ever issued. He has many other inventions and accomplishments to his credit.

But did you know . . .

Bell was very committed to the advancement of science and technology. As such he took over the presidency of a small, almost unheard-of, scientific society in 1898: The National Geographic Society. Bell and his son-in-law, Gilbert Grosvenor, took the society's dry journal and added beautiful photographs and interesting writing turning National Geographic into one of the world's best-known magazines. He is also one of the founders of Science magazine.

I have included other waypoints as points of interest, but am not able to set up a cache in these areas due to the close proximity of other caches. History buffs will want to visit these extra waypoints, time permitting!
