This cache is hidden at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Sulphur Springs--a very warm and friendly place to visit, as expressed by a small portion of its prayer: "A place where all who come will hear your word and receive your Holy Sacraments."
St. Philip's Episcopal Church was one of the earliest churches in the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas. Sulphur Springs was added to the list of mission stations of the Missionary District of Northern Texas in 1864. The Diocese of Dallas lists 1878 as the year St. Philip's was founded, although the historical marker at the church lists the year as 1872. In the early 1990's, land was purchased and a new church constructed on College Street, east of downtown. The new, much larger granite building, consecrated in May 1991, is a mixture of tradition and modern convenience. All of the stained glass windows and the wood paneling from the old church were installed in the new. The original structure, built in 1895, was moved a few blocks east from its location on Houston Street to Heritage Park on Jackson Street, where it is now a chapel and the site of occasional weddings and other events. Flowered stained glass windows replace the original religious glass, a pump organ stands where the altar once stood and new pews and paneling decorate the interior.
