Geocache Description:

A little surveyor history lesson and a place with a view

In 1902 FW Groves Provincial Land Surveyor surveyed out District Lot 815 for landowner HE Allison. It was 80 chain long by 40 chain wide (1 chain is 100 links which equals 66' ) for a total of 320 acres.

Usually in addition to a wooden post, a cairn of rocks was built along with bearing trees that had the distance and bearing to the corner from the tree carved in them. These were all entered in his field notes.

Fast forward to 2009 and BC Land Surveyor Tim Hall was asked to survey the new phone line along Willies Ranch Road that cross through District Lot's 636s, 815, and 3027. In order to acurately plot the boundarys, all the corners had to be located and picked up.
Thanks to computer mapping ( www.rdos.bc.ca ), handheld GPS, and a quad, his assistant (guess who) was able to drive to within 10 m of the location and find the stone mound and bearing trees. Tim and Randy then proceeded to remonument the corner by putting a brass capped post at the corner, guard stake and add one more new bearing tree as the survey rules require 3.

A traverse hub was placed at the top of the ridge to the West and electronically recorded from a station along the road. They then set up on that station and recorded the SE corner of DL 815

A posting plan is drawn up and submitted to Land Titles and there is now a permanent record of this corner.

Can you find the three bearing trees?

Hot Wheels car is the FTF prize....

You can walk (climb) from the road or take a side road that you pass on the way out to the where the needle will swing due East, that will take you to easy walking distance of the cache. (Quad or good clearance vehicle)
Don't take the first right just up the hill...
Turtles would be able to do it in the Civic but !!!!!!!
