Kvepenes pilskalns ir ipaša vieta, kur musdienu
latvieši var ne vien priecaties par apkartnes skaistumu un
senatnibu, bet ari noturet laulibu ceremoniju senlatviešu
gara. Šada kazu ceremonijas laika es pamanijos te noslept
kastiti, lai ari jus atvilinatu uz šo skaisto vietu.
Laika ierobežojumu del neapstaigaju visas talak apraksta
minetas vietas (avotinu, alu, skatu torni), tapec nevaru dot
precizu to atrašanas vietu. Butu jauki, ja nesteidzigie
slepnotaji, kas šis vietas apmekles, padalitos ar papildus
informaciju.
Kvepenes pilskalns tiek uzskatits par Sateklas pils
vietu. Te, iespejams, valdijis Rusins. Bijušas pils
vietu aizsarga divi aizsarggravji, pilskalna pamatu veido
smilšakmens klints - Kvepenes iezis.
Lejpus pilskalna ieža pamatne ir ala. Vel
nedaudz talak, pie stavas smilšakmens sienas senlejas krasta
iztek avotinš ar vesu un dzidru udeni (loti
gards!).
Blakus pilskalnam aug izcili skaists un iespaidigs
dižozols, kura apkartmers ir 5m 90cm (dažviet
teikts, ka 6m 10cm) un augstums 20 m. Ozols tiek saukts ari par
Upuru ozolu, pie kura senlaikos esot upurets un ziedota nauda
(nauda tur tiek ziedota vel joprojam!). Daži uzskata, ka
tieši Kvepenes ozols ir attelots uz 5 latu banknotes, tomer
jaunaki avoti liecina, ka tas ta nebut nav.
Ziemelos no pilskalna ir skatu vieta pakalna,
kas augstuma parspej pilskalnu, tas iedevets par Rusina kalnu. No
ta redzami Pargaujas meži, Cesu torni, Ieriki, Rakšupes
ieteka Gauja. Abpus Gaujai šaja apkartne ir daudz senkapu,
krustakmenu un zimju akmenu.
Par Kvepenes pilskalnu saglabajusies teika, ka kalna nav
varejuši uzbuvet pili: cik pa dienu uzceluši, tik pa
nakti velns nojaucis. Ta tas vilcies labu laiku, lidz beidzot
nolemuši iemuret pils pamatos kadu jaunavu. Tad velns
atstajies un pili uzceluši.

Kvepene castle mound is a special place where contemporary
Latvians can enjoy the beauty of surroundings and experience some
touch of ancient times as well as have wedding ceremony in ancient
Latvian style. During my uncle’s wedding ceremony I
managed to hide a geocache in this area so that you have a reason
to come to this nice place too.
There is an opinion that Kvepene castle mound is a place where
Sateklas castle was located and governed by Rusins. Former castle
was protected by two moats. Base of the castle mound consists of
sandstone rocks – Kvepene rocks.
Down the hill in the base of the castle mound there is a cave.
Little bit further at a steep sandstone wall next to the cost of
the valley there is a spring with cool, clear and very tasty
water.
Next to the castle mound there is a very big and nice oak tree. It
is also called Sacrificial Oak because in ancient times people
where sacrificing and putting money there. Some sources say that
this oak is a prototype of that which is drawn on the banknote of 5
Latvian lats, however experts say that it is not true (there
isn’t any single prototype oak tree for the banknote).
On the north from the oak tree on the hill there is a viewing place
which is higher than the castle mound and is called Rusina hill.
From there you can enjoy a splendid view of surroundings.
In this area on both sides of the river Gauja there are many
ancient burial sites, cross stones and sign stones.
There is a legend about Kvepene castle mound that it was not
possible to build a castle on the hill: what was build during the
day was destroyed by devil during the night. It continued like that
quite long time since finally workers decided to immure some young
virgin into the base of the castle. After that the devil stepped
back and castle was built.
