Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the above location but can be found
within 500m of here.

Ravenglass is equipped with a distinctive station with staggered platforms and standard Furness Railway buildings.

It was the point at which the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, originally built to a guage of 3' to transport haematite from mines at Boot to the coast, diverged and ran inland.

Opened in 1875, the R&ER was put into the doldrums by the failure of the mines in 1882 and closed in 1913.

It was subsequently rebuilt to 15" gauge by renowned model engineer W.J. Bassett Lowke, who acquired the line in early 1915.

Further developments through the years give us the set up we see today.

To find the cache you will need to crack the code.... don't worry it's all in the name
