Park at the Martins Pond Boating Access on Green Bay Loop.
Martins Pond is located in Peacham, Vermont. The land from the
Green Bay Loop to Martins Pond was field and pasture owned by
Claude Field. Through the years, Claude sold off lots around the
pond and camps began to spring up. Some are seasonal, but there are
also year-round residences. The Department of Fish and Wildlife
maintains a fishing access here and it's reported that the pond
contains brook trout, but the fishing never seems to be very good.
I have caught a couple of very small bullhead, though.
A pair of loons call this pond home. Their nest is in the north
east cove and stage 2 takes you close to it. While they are nesting
and hatching their young, you will find signs on the water marking
the area.
While scouting the southern shore, I saw two otters trotting along
the bank. There is also fresh beaver sign and a large beaver hut on
the bank between the third and final stages.
This cache consists of 4 stages with the final being a well
camoflaged 4 quart lock'n'lock container.
You should not have to leave your boat to access any of the stages,
but you may find that you have to ground your boat on shallow rocks
at the first and last stages. People with a short reach may have to
get their feet wet to reach the final.
If you lose satellite reception at the final stage due to the tree
canopy, follow your GPS pointer and stay on course for the last 20'
and you should be within feet of the cache.
I'll add hints for the first 3 stages later if necessary. This
is meant to be difficult, but hopefully still
enjoyable!
