The baseball term "dead ball" is explained in several ways, but the simplest explanation is that it is "a ball that is no longer in play."
This cache is placed in an area between a baseball diamond and a pioneer cemetery . . . thus the name "Dead Ball!"
Yes . . . pun intended . . . but no disrespect intended. We have driven by this spot many, many times and have always been very curious about the tiny pioneer cemetery located so close to this small community ball diamond. Finally we stopped by and investigated it for ourselves.
The cemetery appears to be on a portion of the neighbour's front lawn, but when I called the historical society, they weren't sure whether it was or not. I will be doing some more research, but in the meantime, for those of you who are history buffs, the main name on the very faded headstones is "Fonger."
There is no need to go onto the neighbouring property to locate this cache. I made sure to put it on the community centre property because the property line is questionable at this point.
Please replace the cache as you found it.
