Geocache Description:

Take some time out to stroll around and enjoy the Hikoikoi Reserve area at the mouth of the Hutt River. There is an Information Board at S41° 14.111 E174° 53.846 where you can learn more about the history of this area.

Hikoikoi Reserve has a key coastal location south of Marine Parade and is used for a range of recreational purposes. Council currently hosts a number of lessees and licensees on the reserve. Hikoikoi Reserve is large, almost 11 hectares, and the site generally feels spacious. It provides areas where solitude and some components of wilderness can be found even though it is located in an industrial area of Petone and the Capital City is a prominent feature across the harbour. Between 1995 and 1999 Hutt City Council dedicated $1.1 million to the development of Hikoikoi Reserve. This involved winding down industrial tenants, developing plans, carrying out extensive public consultation, gaining consents and letting contracts to clear the industrial landscape and develop the bulk of the 11 hectare site. The cache is a 125ml round container in a camo bag with a log sheet and pencil. Please ensure that you replace it exactly where and how you found it so that it doesn’t go missing. No spoilers or photographs of the cache location in your logs please.
