Our special thanks go to management of a wonderful park on the Red River for their cooperation and allowance of caches placed in this area. Not for night cachers since the park gate is closed and locked at dusk.
Located in Colfax Recreation Area, there is no park entry fee and it’s open from dawn to dusk. Please be respectful of the campers and visitors in the area, as well as the employees of this beautiful park. While here, take time to check out the other new caches in the area.
Bringing to life the River Gifts - Recreation on the Red. This park is adjacent to Lock & Dam #3, just north of downtown Colfax. Residents along the Red River … like the rest of Louisiana, enjoy a quality of life diverse in its range of cultures. The Colfax Recreation Area puts you in the middle of some of the largest happenings in the state. Events such as the Pecan Festival in Colfax, Uncle Sam Jam in Alexandria and the Christmas Festival in Natchitoches are celebrated annually and draw huge crowds each year. There are plantation homes and museums nearby providing a region rich in history and culture. The newly developed Colfax Recreational Area offers the amenities you’re looking for in a camping site. Complete with picnic shelters, a 2-lane concrete boat ramp, 34 picnic units and 25 RV sites, this is the get-away you’ve been searching for. Visit and discover the gifts of the Red River you’ve been missing.
All facilities are on a first come basis unless reservations are made prior to arrival.
Entrance gate will be open from dawn to dusk. After hours access allowed with electronic gate operator (Keypad controller). RV check-in time is 1 p.m. Checkout time is 11 a.m. RV park users may dock a maximum of one boat overnight for each RV site. A complete list of rules and regulations may be obtained at the gate/entrance area of the park. A fish cleaning area is provided at the floating wharf.
The Fee Schedule as of 8/09: An Air Conditioned building overlooking the Red River is available for group rental; Picnic Pavilion : No Charge ($50 refundable cleanup deposit required for reservation); Boat Launch: No Charge; General Park Entry: No Charge; RV campsite: $24 per day (all back-in sites); Golden Age passport holders: $12 per day; Floating Wharf: No Charge to park users; Showers: No Charge to park users; Dump Station: No Charge; Washer/Dryer: No Charge to park users.
There are comfort stations at boats launch and RV camping area. The Wash House contains washer, dryer and showers (3 mens and 3 womens - handicap accessible). There are 2 Picnic Shelters with 6 picnic tables in each. There is a 2 Lane concrete Boat Ramp with 44 parking spaces. There is a Floating Wharf which has berths for 22 boats. There is playground equipment and play field with 20 parking spaces. There are 34 Picnic units with grills (25 located at the RV sites).
