There are a lot of conspiracy theories out there about the
moonlandings being filmed in a desert or a TV studio. Well, if
anyone would like to film a Mars landing - this is the place to do
it. The soil around this dam is just as red as on the pictures from
Mars and there’s plenty of red rocks to go with it too. No
vegetation grows around this dam, giving it a somewhat alien feel.
This dam is dry for most of the year but when it holds water in
summer one could even film a special about water on our
neighbouring planet! The Red Dam is clearly visible from Google
Earth.
To get to Red Dam, continue on the track from the Riverview cache.
It gets very rocky in places and you might struggle with mud when
it’s wet.
