Please join us at the Eastern Iowa Observatory and Learning Center at the Palisades-Dows Observatory (EIOLC). Local astronomers from the Cedar Amateur Astronomers (CAA) will open up the grounds ~ including the roofs to the permanently mounted telescopes ~ and take us on a celestial tour of the galaxy...and beyond! We will get close up views (that's the plan anyway) of stars, planets, moons, other galaxy's, and much more! (UFO's and aliens?) There are also observing pads available to set-up your personal telescopes, so if you have a telescope, feel free to bring it!

Perhaps most exciting of all is the EIOLC is home to the huge 24-inch Boller & Chivens telescope (see image below)!! Just think of what we'll be able to see during our tour of the universe...

It won't get dark until after 7:45PM, so starting at 6:00PM we'll feast on a potluck while we wait for darkness to fall. We will provide hot dogs, buns, condiments, paper plates, plastic utensils, and napkins. Everyone else please bring a side dish to share:
  • Last name begins with 'A' - 'J' = Side Dish
  • Last name begins with 'K' - 'S' = Desert
  • Last name begins with 'T' - 'Z' = Salad

Photobucket IMPORTANT: The CAA requires a $2.00 fee per person/attendee, so if you plan on attending any portion of the event, please plan on paying the fee. The fee is per person and not per geocaching name (for example, the two of us (AB-n-AP) will pay $4.00). Their is no fee for babies and toddlers. If excessive cloud cover blocks celestial viewing, the event will go on, however, the $2.00 fee is non-refundable.

Please pay us (AB-n-AP) when you arrive and sign the event log sheet. If we miss you at the log sheet, please seek us out to pay. We would greatly appreciate this if we miss you. At the conclusion of the event all money will go to the CAA.
