Geocache Description:

Easy find for travelers. It's right next to the road...

Making a summer trek to our favorite swimming spot.
The cache consists of a small container with log (bring own pen). It can hold small items.

The place that we call the 'ole swimmin' hole is an old open mining pit that is now full of water. It's name is Barth's Pit and is approximately 6 or 7 miles from the cache.

If you have time to look at the swimming hole, continue down the road to your south, and follow it to where 2 houses are, which also where there is a 'Y' in the road. Go to the right (maintained dirt road), and keep going down to the bottom of the canyon. At one point, you'll see another fork in the road, and on this one, veer to the left and you'll go over 2 sets of railroad tracks. Be careful, the tracks are still active and listen for on-coming trains. Keep going another 500 feet and you'll see a narrow bridge. Stop before you get to the bridge and you'll find a wide spot in the road where you can park and do some fishing or swimming. The Humboldt River feeds into the pit in the summer months. The water in the river is cooler than in the pit.
