Geocache Description:

Most people in the UK will never have heard of the village of Upton on the Wirral, but they will have heard of, and probably bought items that were manufactured here for nearly 40 years.

“Champion” were a leading brand of Spark Plugs fitted to many (if not a majority) of cars within the UK. They were manufactured at the Champion factory on Arrowe Brook Road, Upton on the Wirral. The Champion factory was established on this site in 1968 and was taken over by Federal Mogul thirty years later in 1998. An increase in demand for diesel cars, falling demand for spark plugs, and cheaper imports adversely affected the factory causing it to make a loss for several years before finally closing in the spring of 2006. The site is now the Champion Business Park.

The cache is a small snap’n’lock box just six feet from the pavement on Arrowe Brook Road. There is parking nearby, just 100m further down the road which is better than alongside the cache.
