Geocache Description:

This cache is placed in memory of Captain Alfred Parker, the former owner of the Put-in-Bay Boat Line. It is placed in a small park which bears his name.

Close by is the Benson Ford, a former Great Lakes shipping vessel built by Henry Ford and his son. It was due to be made into scrap metal after fifty years of service but was spared when bought at auction. It was made into a private residence, after having the Captain’s Quarters removed and brought to the island on a barge. It was lifted to the approximately twenty foot cliff by crane.

Be sure to enjoy the wonderful look-out point that Captain Parker would use as a landmark when navigating his vessels the Erie Isle and Yankee Clipper to port at downtown South Bass Island, also known as Put-in-Bay.
