Named after a well known local MTB route at the top of a steep hill (byway)
The Tower has, for many years, been a local ride for surfers from the country's first surf shop in the 60s not far away in Sandgate. When the wind was not blowing, the bikes would be rolling. You will be parking at the top of Westfield Lane near a very tall aeriel array with microwave links attached. After you have found the nearby cache, go through the gate and bike or walk towards the sea to enjoy the spectacular views.
Alternatively test yourself and see if you can ride up from the bottom without stopping and get the other cache down below on your way up. The byway starts from the A20......park in Saltwood and do the whole ride if you feel like it. If you park in Saltwood, you will be parking at the site of the UKs first man v bike competition (Boxing Day) and my first ever race.
The cache was a control point in the country's first Trailquest event (mountain bike orienteering) organised by ourselves some years back. However you do this one, enjoy the views and let us know how you get on. Replace the cache carefully and avoid muggles!
