Geocache Description:

The cache is located near an old wooden building that is 100 years old. It was once an old fashioned General Store and a Feed Store. The cache is located near a place to rest your feet and ease your mind as you watch the local traffic walk by. Make sure and ask one of the proprietors in this area about the legend of the “Old Loafer’s Bench”, that exists nearby.
When replacing the cache make sure that everything is locked tight and tucked away.

Some of the local Indian languages were spoken without closing the lips (except for the "m" sound). Think of that and say "Sokhe Chapke!”. The town's name is a corruption of "Lockchoppe", derived from the Muskogee languages. Muskogee lokchapi (lokcha (acorn) / api (stem), some say this was the old name of the nearby river.

The rural town of Sopchoppy came into existence in 1894. After the Carrabelle, Tallahassee and Georgia Railroad CT&G Railroad Company had built a railway through the area, they platted the town on property they already owned in the area, across the river from Greenough, Florida. The town has several historical sites, archeological sites, a beautiful river, great birding areas, fishing, hunting and hiking. The picturesque city park is located along the banks of the Sopchoppy River and has campsites available to the public. Slow down the pace of your travels and visit those of us who enjoy "easy living."

Over the years Sopchoppy has become a great place for musicians to jam and record their work as well as having some of the best restaurants in the area. A nearby local establishment honors a great blues legend; let your eyes lead you to the wall of fame if you choose to walk in the door.
