Peigimccann is from California but spends time in Scotland and has worked extensively with the 'Save Gillies Hill' campaign. The hill has been important throughout history. There is Wallstale Dun thought to have been occupied in the first century. The hill once played an important role for Robert the Bruce's troops before Bannockburn in 1314. Peigi has fought for the heritage site here to be preserved from the impact of further quarrying.
In 2009 we thought it fitting that we should reward Peigi's efforts on her return to California with a piece of Scotland for herself - Peigi's Cottage situated in Gillies Hill. We hope that she will be able to enjoy visiting it whenever she comes back to Scotland.
We were pleased to locate this lovely quaint country cottage as it is very close to the spot where we first met Peigi. Along with Robert Burns they were the first geocachers that we met 'out in the field' with Robert's immortal words of "We're not muggles" announcing that they were fellow geocachers.
We would appreciate if all who are priviledged to visit here help Peigi by keeping an eye on the place. After you have found the cache you are welcome to go in (or even stay if Peigi is not in town) but please leave the cottage clean and tidy up after yourself. The key is in the obvious place!
Walk along the woodland drive to the front gate and follow the pathway through the pretty cottage garden to the back of the property where the cache is located behind the South East wall.
The open plan cottage has been extensively converted and gives wonderful views over Gillies Hill. Only locally sourced natural eco friendly buillding materials have been used in the construction.
If you decide to take up our offer of an overnight stay please treat yourself to one of the numerous single malts that we have left for your pleasure. Although there is now running water, unfortunately electricity has yet to be connected so you will need some candles for an overnight stay.
