Geocache Description:

Cache can be found right on the Bruce Trail.

This is the third in the Klondike series. This portion empties into a channel between Lake Gibson and Lake Moodie. This is Thorold's "Klondike". This is a remnant of an artificial channel dug in 1897 from the Third Canal at Allanburg to provide water power for the first phase of the DeCew Power Station. The electricity generated was sent to Hamilton. A friend of mine who has researched the name Klondike hasn't found any concrete evidence of why it is called the Klondike. The best guess is that any venture that was risky was referred to as a "Klondike". The Klondike wasn't used after the flooding of Lake Gibson in 1904. The others in the Klondike series: Thorold's Klondike GC1VD6F (a roadside drive-by cache) Thorold's Klondike II GC1VE5G
