Geocache Description:

Queens Cut Swimming hole

A local swimming destination for the older kids

I don’t remember much about this swimming place when I was growing up. We would have come to Triangle Pond mostly due to our ages. My parents remember the location quite well but would not elaborate more and they would get distracted while reminiscing. They did say it was for the older teens to gather and swim and soak up the sun and smear on body oil – starting to see the picture?

I do not know if the following tradition still exists, but:
Back in the day, this place was for the “older kids” only, usually those of the driving years. The road to the swimming area is not marked and to have been accepted here, you had to have wheels and/or a friend who knew where the location was. You were not ever allowed to bring down the little brother or sister.

Queens cut is a man made water hole like Triangle Pond. When the railroad came through and built the grade through here they kept it away from the steep mountains to the south, the trestle created a semi-shallow area with protection from the river currents and winds. Kudos to the locals for keeping the area so clean. When we drove down the road, we were amazed that there is no garbage anywhere. So whoever keeps it clean, my hats off to you.

*********************************

Heron has gone way to long without geocaches, so we decided to give them a variety to pick from. Hopefully this will fire up the spirits of any local cachers to plant a few of their own.

We decided to plant one of each size in the area and this location was just the right size for this cache. This one is called a CAMO SMALL; Cache may be accessible year around depending on snow accumulation. You should not be bothered much by muggles.

Cache is not at the swimming/camping area but on the road just before it with space enough for 1 vehicle to move off road. The road is excellent now.

GPS can bounce around here due to heavy canopy and mountains.
