Set in the middle of the Desert on beautiful Moreton Island lays this simple find. To be truly worthy of logging this cache you really should bring a piece of massonite to the top of some of the worlds largest sand dunes and ride it down as far as you can go. If you're game, use your GPS as a speedometer on the way down to log your speed.
The Record is currently held by "geokutzrs" with a blinding run of 59.2km!
How fast can you go?
There are two methods of locating this cache. The first, by 4WD can be found by following the signs to the Desert - Park in the designated parking area and it's a short walk from there. Alternatively there is a 2km walk in from Tangalooma resort via the beach but we've not tested this option, its said to be fairly scenic.
For Sandboarding, Masonite sheets, shiny side down with candle wax on the base gives best results. You can purchase boards and wax on the ferry or bring your own. Don't forget when riding. Keep your whole self on the board. Sun glasses are recommended. Choose a run with no bumps and limited footprints at it's base and bend the front of the board up to make sure no edges catch or you truly will be EATIN' SAND.
NB: We hold no responsibility for the amount of sand you may consume in this endeavor. Or the pain exerted to re climb the dune for your second...third...fourth...fifth run.
