This cache is at 2200 ft of altitude. An easy and delightful walk starts from Vallico Sopra (terrain rating 1.5) and takes you past the stunning Buca de Castelvenere which is worth a look on your way; the more difficult uphill clamber starts from Cardoso (terrain rating would be upgraded to 4).and this way you also pass the venerable ancient chestnut tree - the Devil Tree. No special equipment needed but a good sturdy pair of walking boots is a must.
High up above the valley of the Sercchio river where the golden eagles soar, this cache is hidden at the foot of a cross deep within the Parco Regionale delle Alpi Apuane with fabulous views across to the appenines.
The cache can be reached by a lovely walk from the village of Vallico Sopra or by a fairly energetic uphill clamber from Cardoso. Both walks take around an hour to reach the cache. Use good footwear and if it's summer take plenty of water!
From Vallico Sopra: Go through the village and park by the wayside sign to Cardoso, co-ordinates N 44degree 00.927;E 10 degrees 27.276. Follow red and white waymark trail 111 that goes straight ahead (not the path to S. Luigi).
From Cardoso: Park at the entrance to the village, co-ordinates N44 degrees 01.575 E 10 degrees 28.885. On foot follow the brown sign up hill to Chiesa de St Genesio and follow the red and white waymark trail (136). Keep following the red and white waymarks rather than going all the way to the church so keeping always to the right until you go through a stone arch way on your left and start the walk up hill..
