Amteknotten er et utsiktspunkt (56 moh) ved Homborsund.

Amteknotten is a viewpoint (56 masl) close to Homborsund.

MERK! Pga anleggsarbeid nær cachen vil det ikke være tilkomst direkte til cache-området fra FV 420 fra nord, eller via broa over Engekilen fra sør i perioden 20. oktober 2025 til mai 2026. Se alternative parkeringskoordinater til grendehuset Alvheim. Herfra er det tilkomst til cachen på egen sti med ca 2km lengde.

NOTE! Due to construction work near the cache, there is no direct access to the cache area from FV 420 road from the north, neither over the bridge over Engekilen from the south. This applies between October 20th 2025 to May 2026. See alternative parking coordinates for the Alvheim 'village hall'. From Alvheim, there is access to the cache via a 2km path.

Tidligere var Amteknotten en såkalt kystmeldestasjon som ble brukt av Forsvaret til å overvåke kystlinjen mellom Håøya i øst (utenfor Grimstad) og Justøya i vest (utenfor Lillesand). Amteknotten var stasjon nr 23 regnet fra svenskegrensa. Stasjonen ble bygget i 1897 og var i virksomhet frem til 1997.

I perioden august 1939 frem til Tysklands invasjon 9.april 1940, hadde en firemannsstyrke vakt på Amteknotten døgnet rundt. Klokken halv seks på morgenen denne dagen kunne vaktene her høre lyden fra kanoner og fly fra Kristiansand. Flere observasjoner ble gjort. Det siste som står i protokollen er: "Fire tyske kampfly mot øst". De mottok så en telefon fra Grimstad om at en tropp tyske soldater var på vei for å innta stasjonen. Selv om vaktene hadde gevær, var det nytteløst å forsvare seg. De hadde gjort sin jobb og tok med seg alt de kunne bære av utstyr, blant annet den store langkikkerten.

Bygningen eies i dag av Grimstad kommune, og har i senere tid vært under oppussing i regi av Eide Sognelag for å ivareta dette historiske minnet.

MERK: Veien er relativt smal, svingete og uoversiktlig der stien til Amteknotten starter. Av hensyn til din egen og andre trafikkanters sikkerhet skal bilen IKKE parkeres langs veien, men ved brua på oppgitte koordinater.
Deretter går du langs veien (omtrent 200 m nordover) for å finne stien. Velg den siden av veien som er mest hensiktsmessig for din egen og andres ferdsel når du går mellom stien og brua.

Den korte turen opp til toppen overkommelig for alle som kan ta seg frem i naturen uten hjelpemidler.

Du må gjerne ta med termos, matpakke og kikkert. Da får du garantert en bedre opplevelse om vinden ikke er for sterk!

Amteknotten was previously an observation post for the Norwegian Armed Forces and was used to monitor the coastline between Håøya in East (outside Grimstad) and Justøya in West (outside Lillesand). Amteknotten was observation post number 23 from the Swedish border.
The observation post was built in 1897 and taken out of service in 1997.

During the period from August 1939 until Germany’s invasion April 9th 1940, a four men team were on continuous duty here. This morning at 05:30 AM the team could hear the sounds from cannons and planes from Kristiansand. Multiple observations were logged. The last writing in the logbook says: "Four German fighter planes towards east". Then the observation post received a phonecall from Grimstad telling them that a platoon of German soldiers were heading for the observation post with orders to conquer the post. Even if the Norwegian guards were armed with rifles combat was not an option. They had fulfilled their duty and left the observation post carrying all the inventory they could bring along, including the large stationary binoculars.

Today the building is owned by Grimstad Municipality, but has been restored lately by Eide Sognelag (the local historical association) to keep this historical memorial building.

NOTE: The road is relatively narrow, winding and has limited overview where the path to the cache starts.To ensure your own and others safety you SHALL NOT park your car at the start of the path, but park beside the bridge at the given coordinates.
Then you can walk along the road (approx. 200 meters towards North) to find the path.
Choose the most appropriate side of the road to comfort yourself and others when walking between the path and the bridge.

The short trip to the top is suitable for all persons who can move unsupported in the nature.

Feel free to bring your thermos, lunchbox and binoculars. By doing this you will for sure improve your experience at the viewpoint as long as the vind is relatively calm!
