In June 2008 I was supposed to take a trip to Africa. This trip was a gift, given to me on my 50th birthday. I had been looking forward to this trip of a lifetime, getting in shape by walking more, and dreaming about the animals I'd see and the people I'd meet.
One week before we were to leave I was walking our dogs in this area that locals call "the maze". I was using a single crutch instead of the two I usually use and I decided to take the back trail and step across a stream at N 038.03.953, W 122.48.403 instead of using the bridge to the west. My crutch sunk into the mud, I fell, I heard my leg snap and as I landed I screamed "Africa!". I knew I was no longer going on my trip.
There is now a small foot bridge where I fell and no need to try to jump the stream.
The cache is located near a savanna of sorts a short distance away. It's likely the closest thing to Africa I'll see for a long time to come.
Cache is custom cammo (of sorts) and contains nothing to do with Africa.
Maybe at some point the trip will happen and I can add some African schwag.
Parking is available at N38.03.927, W 122.48.457
Bring your dog and let them romp. Just please don't trip.
