Located at a new public boat launch on Kapowsin Lake.
Lake Kapowsin was used as a log storage pond by the timber company resulting in many partially submerged logs and floating debris along the shoreline resulting in great fish habitat. The lake contains many species of fish, like bass, gills, crappie, perch, bullheads...some bows, throats, browns...and lately introduced walleye, channel cats, pickerel.
According to geologic resources, Lake Kapowsin was formed by a lahar that occurred 500-600 years ago from Mt. Rainier that formed a dam in the valley and thereby forming the lake.
I have even been told there is even an old Steam Engine at the bottom of the lake! A co-worker of mine said when he was a kid they used to swim down to it.
The spirit of Washington dinner train stopped at Lake Kapowsin before turning back to Tacoma. Due to poor ticket sales after the move to Tacoma, the owners decided to pull the pilot project and close the train down.
