It is hard to imagine this area as a port, as the shipping
channels have long since silted up.
For some time there was a regular service between here and
Onehunga.
The area was used extensively for the removal of logs milled in
the area, and later for the building of the two dams further up the
valley.
A tram line ran from here to the dam sites and their associated
construction camps, remnants of which can still be seen, both here
and further up the valley.
A second, larger, deeper water wharf was also constructed in the
area, although no remnants of this exist.
Access to the cache likely to be a little
muddy in winter, appropriate foot ware advised, and keep an eye on
the young ones, water and mud about!
