Geocache Description:

Off Route 27, on the Goldbrook Road, about 4.5 miles in.

Ever since TransCanada began building the Kibby wind power project, the song "They Call the Wind Mariah" has been running through my head. The version I remember is the one sung by the Kingston Trio. Remember them? No? Oh well. A little internet research revealed that the song is from a 1951 Broadway musical called "Paint Your Wagon" which was set in a mining camp in California during the 1853 gold rush.

The lyrics go "Away out here they have a name for rain and wind and fire. The rain is Tess, the fire's Joe and they call the wind Mariah. Mariah blows the stars around and sets the clouds a-flyin'. Mariah makes the mountains sound like folks was out there dyin'."

So I drove out the Goldbrook Road and found a place to put this cache. It's right by the side of the road and has a great view of the wind farm and also more of the "natural" scenery so bring your camera. This is a busy road during the week with concrete trucks, heavy equipment and 150' blades being trucked in, not to mention the usual assortment of logging trucks, so please go on weekends only. And yes, I have two more caches planned a "fire" one for Joe and a rain one for Tess, but not on this road. Stay tuned...

The views of the towers are best from here to about mile 6. Just beyond mile 7 there are also good views around the Spencer Bale Road but they don't want you to drive up there and they have it blocked by security on weekends.

FTF may have the little toy that TransCanada was handing out at their early meetings, before the project was approved. Kids will love it. Just straighten out the two soft blades and push the button.
