Durga's Treasure Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

thebruce0: With a heavy heart, Durga has decided to move on to other things... like watching the window-tv, inspecting the bath and shower after every use, testing the sturdiness of door frames by climbing, and keeping fresh laundry warm. She hasn't had time to regularly verify her tasks, and doesn't want to be a pest for any wayward individual who may be sharing the area where she wishes to keep her treasure. She's assured me through her vibratory mumblings that she'll keep it in mind and may return with a new trove at some point, but wishes to thank everyone who enjoyed the park, and hopes they'll continue to visit and enjoy it in the future!

Geocache Description:

No tree-climbing is necessary, but it's a bit of walking. This is the last Vicpark area cache, I swear :) Durga wanted to get in on the action too!

The cache is NOT at the posted coords! (O Canada!)

One night Durga managed to escape from my house, and went off on some wild outdoor adventure. Soon I found her looking at me from across the street on a neighbour's porch. I knew she'd been up to some kind of mischief, but I had no idea what. I went and retrieved her, and when we got back inside, she told me what she'd been exploring and that she learned about a lot of people, and then she hid a stash of stuff, just for fun!

I know, pretty random, eh?
This is what Durga told me:

"meow rehr rehr purrrrrr meow meoooowooo purrr purrr petme purrr petmenow purrrrr meow rub rub rub purrrrrrrrr licky lick purrr meow"

I'm a bit rusty, but here it is translated to big-people-type talk:

For Step 1, find each of the following 14 dedicated park benches, all located along the red highlighted walking paths shown below (amongst other plain benches), and answer the associated questions to solve for A-N.
Answers may be numbers, letters, or words. Then continue on with Step 2 to calculate the final coordinates.

(( STEP 1 ))
A) Howard Roth "Watching the _____" (word)
B) Woodrow & Leona What is the first letter of the last line? (letter)
C) Irene & Henry What park? (word)
D) Attila Peter Keszeli How old was Attila? (number)
E) Ruth & Vern What began here? (word)
F) Jackie & Dagmar From whom, with love? (word)
G) Dorothy Russell What date in April 2000? (number)
H) Joseph Schneider What is the third year shown? (number)
I) John & Susan How many years together? (number)
J) Betty Schweitzer Which month? (word)
K) IODE Centenniel What is the last year minus the second last year? (number)
L) Darren Cashmore In what year was he born? (number)

(( STEP 2 ))
Convert any letter answers above to their alphanumeric equivalent (A=1, Z=26).
Convert the letters of any word answers above to their alphanumeric equivalents and add them together.
Eg, "DURGA" = 4+21+18+7+1 = 51
All answers should all now be numeric values.

The final cache is located at:
N43 26.XXX, W80 YY.ZZZ
Now some simple Maths! Where:
X = the 3rd, 2nd, 4th digits of 2011+J+A+G+E-D+G+E+C+1
Y = the 1st, 3rd digits of 2012+K-H+E+L-F-H-J-B
Z = the 4th, 1st, 3rd digits of 2013+B+L+I+K+E+J+J

You can check your Maths at Geochecker.com
Or, for a quick checksum while on foot, the digital root of all X, Y, and Z digits (add together each digit of each number, and continue with the resulting individual digits until one remains) should be 5.

When Durga first placed the cache, she filled the container with some little toys and swag, and some useful prizes for first finders. Feel free to trade or add to the few little trinkets to her treasure stash. Durga's container is large and great for trading up and for dropping off TBs.

Happy meow year!
