Geocache Description:

You will find yourself in the midst of the campus that Elbert built. Elbert Hubbard (not to be confused with E. Ron) was an innovative soap salesman for Larkin Soaps in Buffalo, took his massive earnings and moved to East Aurora to become a writer. And write he did--prolifically until his untimely death on the Lusitania in 1915. When you find this cache, your back will be to the charming building called the Chapel, even though Elbert was distinctly anti-organized religion. His writings and beliefs about working with one's hands and heart brought a whole community of craftsmen and -women who made beautiful leatherwork, copper pieces, oak furniture and books, of course. Across the street is the inn he needed to house all the famous and not-so-famous who came to East Aurora just to meet Mr. Hubbard and see his Arts and Crafts community. There is much more to say about this innovative Pied Piper, but there are books to serve this purpose--not far from the cache site. Sign and then explore!
