Geocache Description:

This is a cache that really needed to be brought back ,,So I have done so at the request of a friend.
The original cache was placed by some great cachers .The_Griswolds
I have included the History information off the original cache page.

The cache is located in a small town park. There is a picnic bench, an historical marker, and a Salt Kettle used by Sequoyah, the Cherokee Indian. Please take the time to read the markers.

A little history lesson:

Sequoyah was born in Tennesse, but lived most of his life in present day Pope County. He was concerned that his people were abandoning their spoken language to learn the white man’s English in order to read and write. So, Sequoyah began to draw picture symbols for every word in the language, but soon learned that there were too many words. Instead he decided to make a symbol for every syllable in the language. 12 years later in 1821 he finished! He had a symbol for every sound in the Cherokee language. Sequoyah did something no one had ever done before; he made up a written language all by himself. For this, he was honored by the President of the United States

Log only so please bring your own pen and let me know if the cache need attention,,Happy Caching.
