Geocache Description:

Forty years after folks first talked about bringing a light rail transit system to the Seattle area, and thirteen years after voters approved the taxes to build it, Sound Transit's Central Link light rail opened for service on Saturday, July 18, 2009. To commemorate the opening, Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels rode one train from the northern terminus at Westlake Center and Tukwila Mayor Jim Haggerton stepped onto a train at the current southern terminus in Tukwila. The two mayors met at the Mount Baker station, which you see before you.
It took seven years to build the central link of the light rail and it is the most complex light rail line in the country because of the different types of environments that it runs through. In fact, downtown Seattle is the only place in the world where passenger rail and buses share a tunnel simultaneously.
The 1.7 mile segment from the Tukwila station to SeaTac Airport is still under construction and is set for completion sometime in December. A second link to the University District is slated to open in 2016.

Please enjoy the view of the grand Mount Baker Station. We hope you get a chance to ride the LINK some time soon!

NOTE***Please do not go past the fence or touch any of Sound Transit's electrical boxes.

You will need to bring your own writing utensil.
