This is number 7 of the Grovely’s Witchcraft Ring which is a series
of 24 caches, placed in a figure of eight, of various sizes and
difficult to complement the Grovely Series which is a little
further to the West.
Full details of the Witchcraft stories are included on the
Govely’s Witchcraft Ring Listing No1 (GC1XF72) and No 10 (GC1XFDM).
Details of parking places, access and other information are also
provided on those listings.
This figure of eight ring is about 9 miles long and does keep to
the Roman road, public paths, bridleways, etc. At times, for those
that do the full ring, the going is very hard as there are some
hills to climb and descend. Please note some of the paths are muddy
in the winter or after heavy rain so boots are advisable; certain
paths are also very rutted for very short distances due to the
movement of heavy machines used when logging.
You can start this ring from several places; the Wilton/Water
Ditchampton end of Grovely, Wishford and Barford St Martin but if
you want to get the steepest hill climbing over early start from
Wishford, there is plenty of on road parking places in the
village.
