This 300 foot walk up a steep grassy hillside from easy parking will take you through one of the “most haunted” church yards in the world according to at least 2 books & many stories & web sites.
The magnetic Bison Tube is on the NE border of the graveyard. Near the Lady who watches over.
Hint is spoiler. PLANTED WITH CHURCH PERMISSION
In Summer 2009 while watching the Milky Way on the next hill south, we noticed a pale, off white light near the grave site of the notorious & reportedly restless Matthias Schambacher. It seemed to wink on & off as if passing around grave stones, & to move within a small area.
We were sure the light was more natural then it looked, but felt compelled to walk across the small valley & see for ourselves.
You can see the spot the light was at in the graveyard at the waypoint: N 40° 38.006 W 075° 53.467 If you dared in 2009 you could solve this small mystery for yourself, but sadly in Aug. 2010 the solar yard lights are gone.
It is written that on his deathbed, the delirious tavern keeper Schambacher confessed to robbing and killing travelers, & burying them by the inn near the top of Hawk Mt. Rd. His wanderings are said to light this area. He is not alone. A luminous ten-foot- tall man, probably associated with the Lenni Lenape Ceremonial Ring, has been reported by drivers along the road to the mountaintop. The ghosts of the Gerhardt Family are believed to roam the valley at night.
In 1969 several of us saw a ghostly greenish white light for about 2 hours in a hollow at the nearby game lands. It disappeared repeatedly when approached. For that light I have no explanation.
BTW if you can explain the 1969 light or see any ghosts let us know.
Have fun.
