The old MOPAC DEPOT in Bald Knob is now the home of the ATH Railroad Museum and is located at a unique junction of the Union Pacific Railroad. The U P Lines to Memphis and St. Louis split directly in front of the depot. This allow you to sit at the authentic operator’s bay and observe the trains North, South, and East bound. The Summer Waiting Room is an ideal place to bring your camera to get great railfan shots. Past this historic location rolls over 50 trains a day, one of the largest varieties of rolling stock and Motive Power in the United States.
In June 2007 an 1894 St. Charles Car Company RPO Combine, owned by the White County Historical Society, was moved to the location to begin rebuilding. Originally built for the St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern Railroad, it is the last wooden passenger car owned by the Missouri & North Arkansas Railway that ran from Joplin, MO to Helena, AR. Additional phases are ongoing and will include a MoPac Caboose, and an observation platform.
Inside the museum you will find housed one of the largest collections of railroad memorabilia in the area. Take time to look around and visit with Craig and the very friendly museum staff. Admission is free and you are guaranteed to learn something or double your money back.
