Take a half mile hike to the site of a old fire lookout, elev. 5,173 ft.
The lookout was built in the 30's and destroyed in 1958. The trees have grown up and the tower is gone with only bits and pieces of the view remaining. The cache is within 100 feet of the remains of the old tower, gone now except for a few anchors.
To reach the cache, take Forest Service road #70 off of Highway 410, then follow it up into the hills. At about 8 miles up turn left onto 7030. At the top of the hill turn right onto 7036 and go a short way to the turn or park here and walk to the trailhead. The final half mile of road is a little rough in places so a vehicle with high ground clearance is necessary. The final parking area has room for 6-8 vehicles.
The trail up to the cache sees very little use but is still in good condition with only a few trees down, helping to keep the wheels at bay. Near the summit the trail comes near several rocky ridges. If you are comfortable with some exposure the views are better than at the top.
The cache is an ammo can hidden under pieces of bark.
