The cache doesn't contain a writing implement, so you will need to
bring one with you. (The log book is in a sandwich bag to keep it
protected from the elements as the first log book took a bit of a
battering!)
Ifield railway station serves the neighbourhoods of Ifield and
Gossops Green in the West Sussex town of Crawley. It is on the Arun
Valley Line, and train services are provided by Southern. The
station was opened on 1 June 1907 as Lyons Crossing Halt, although
it became known as Ifield Halt later that year. It was then closed
for just over three years between 1st January 1917 and 2nd May
1920, before being reopened the next day. It was one of a series of
unstaffed intermediate halts set up by the London Brighton and
South Coast Railway, to be worked by rail motor trains. It became
known simply as Ifield station from 1930. It is still in operation,
providing services to London Bridge and Horsham.
