Geocache Description:

Another site I want to show you in Montenegro, is hidden from common visitors. Even you will not get there unless you have certain experience and skill and especially unless you are not scared. As well as the “Ash from Etna” cache, it was my friend Milos who showed me this spot. The alpinotype character of Southern Europe was formed by a rock-folding process and consists, besides the Alps, of the Carpathian and Southern European mountain ranges. The typical material is marl, sandstone and limestone. The latter type also forms the coastal rock of Montenegro. This rugged coastline is characterized by numerous karst formations, including many caves varying in size. Some of them are very popular with tourists, others, much more attractive to the adventurous eye, have not yet been discovered by the public. I’m going to show you just such a site – an otherwise nameless karst cave which we called Bat Cave. When sailing from Budva summer resort to Boka Kotorska you pass near the coords given. If you anchor your boat on the coords, you can visit two caves. The bigger one is more popular and isn’t of much interest to us. It is where anyone can go if they rent a boat in the port. It is on the left if you look from the coords towards the rock. For us, the interesting cave is the one that smells of adventure. You can find it on the right from your position on the coords. However, you have to put on flippers and a snorkel, take a waterproof flash-light and dive into the waters of the Adriatic. You have to enter by water and, according to tidal phase, the space above water is, just big enough for a swimmer. Right behind the entrance the cave opens upwards and after another 50 metres, behind a slight turn to the right you swim to quite a large dome. If you aim the light up, you’ll see rich decorative karst formations consisting of numerous stalactites and limestone “waterfalls”. Dozens of bats live among these forms; don’t worry, they are the harmless horseshoe bats but please, do not disturb them too long. On the way out note some reddish rock-forming organisms on the right walls, take a good look at them! I take it for granted that you’re not going to vandalize anything in the cave.To claim this cache you must: 1) visit the coords given and take a photo of yourself or of your GPS inside the cave (if you’re worried about you camera, I’ll make do with a picture from your boat by the entrance). 2) send an e-mail to: geoservis@email.cz with English or Czech answers to the following questions: a. How does the cave end? (e.g. in a rock-fall, a vertical rock face, etc.) b. What rock-forming organisms can you see on the right by the exit? c. What was the height of the entrance above the water level? What time was it when you were there?
