Wow, a park in Berkeley that hasn't been zuckermn'd? How'd that happen? Well, now it has a micro.
Cedar-Rose Park was developed along a portion of the abandoned Santa Fe Railroad right-of-way and additional adjacent parcels. On July 26, 1980, the park was dedicated and opened to the public with an open playing field, playgrounds, and a Recreation Center. Two years later, the City of Berkeley added tennis courts, volleyball and basketball courts, pathways, lighting, a community garden, and rest rooms.
There are separate play areas for tots and school age kids as well as a nearby community garden. The Recreation Center is currently leased to the Ala Costa Center for the Developmentally Disabled, but the Social Hall is available for rental during non-use hours. The park is open 6am-10pm. By the way, the Ala Costa hours are M-F 2-6pm during the school year, and from from 9-6 on holidays and during summer vacation.
Come for the cache, stay for the park. THG and I did.
