A Beuitiful War Memorial.
Mayor otis Schulte the designer and major contributor of this memorial spent two long years with this project. With several other contributors and volunteers who spent over 2,000 man/women hours bringing the seed to fruitation. The Veterans Memorial located in Gerald Missouri is a rather impressive place with seven granite pillars one for each war,WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Dessert storm, Afganistan, and Iraq. The pillars measur 18 X 18 X 42 inches. There are nine flags located here the US flag, Missouri flag, City of Gerald, Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, Coast Gaurd, and the POW MIA flag.The memorial will be lit 7 evening a week. The Memorial is placed in the Legions Park which was donated by Noble Farrell of the American Legion post 337 and the Auxillary in 1970. Other items to see in the park; to the north west is small building known as the Bourbeuse Telephone Office dedicated in memory of Elizebeth Raaf who was an operator here, 1917 to 1984. Also in the park located East of the memorial is the little white building once the American Legion Hall, old City Hall and now a meeting place. Also to the eastis the Gerald Rock Island Depot originally located at the corner of main and hwy 50 across the tracks. It was moved to this location after being purchased for $100 by the citizens of Gerald and later restored to its original condition. For more information read the sign on the rear of the building don't forget to get your picture on the clap board wagon out back of the depot. Other items of interest in the park is the bathrooms (of coarse), a pavalion, food stand (for certain ocassions) a nice water fountain, swings and it is also home of the Gerald fire Department (YAH), Gerald Ambulance District, and a landing zone for those larger emergencies.
