5 Maples Traditional Cache

This is the fourth (if you stopped at Red Pine Toy Box) stop along the way through part of the Allen Lake State Forest leading you deeper into the boondocks! Beginning at the Belfast Caneadea town line you will be on the State Snowmobile Trail C2C. This trail is accessible year round by foot, horseback, or snowmobile depending on the season. ATV use is prohibited.
The trail borders clearly posted private land on the right side of the trail. There is no reason to cross over the line all caches are on State Forest Land. As with all State Forest Land, Blaze Orange is recommended during hunting seasons.
This cache takes you through some of the Red Pine that was planted as part of the Civilian Conservation Corps back in the late 1930’s. These plantings covered open land that was formerly farm land. Much of this hill was hay and oats that were hauled to Belfast to be shipped to Buffalo to feed the many horses in the livery stables in the early 1900’s.
These caches are easy to find, they are supposed to be. The challenge is the hike. Come on, get out of the car. This is not a cache and dash lets’ get off road and back in the woods!
